In the past this regional paper was closely linked - also financially - to the Centre Party. It severed its political ties with the party in the 1990s, having previously also cut its financial ties. IIkka's editing department cooperates with several regional papers, some of which belong to other media companies. Since early 2020, Ilkka was merged with Pohjalainen.
