The Catholic newspaper La Croix was initially founded as a monthly magazine in 1880 by the Assumptionists, a Catholic monastic order. It became a daily paper in 1883. Religious and social issues are prioritised but La Croix is also known for its quality political reporting. Two newsletters focussing on ecclesiastical issues are available to subscription holders. In 2016 the paper's layout was updated and parts of it are now also published in English.
