The daily Duma is the successor to the former communist propaganda newspaper Rabotnichesko delo, which was closed down in 1990. Duma then became the press organ of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), which was the successor to the Bulgarian Communist Party. Since 1998 the paper has been closed down twice and changed ownership several times. Although Duma regards itself as an independent left-wing newspaper its close ties with the Socialist Party and Russia are undeniable.
