Göteborgs-Posten is Sweden's second-largest daily, distributed in Göteborg and the surrounding area. It started appearing on a regular basis in 1872 and was initially liberal in stance but became markedly conservative towards the end of the 19th century. Thanks to aggressive expansion and the acquisition of other regional papers the paper now occupies a dominant position in western Sweden. The parent company Stampen has, however, run into financial difficulties as a result of this strategy. Staff cuts are anticipated.
