Jornal i brought out its first edition in May 2009 during the economic and financial crisis. Its format is smaller than that of the traditional daily papers, printed in full colour and stapled together. This innovative, centre-left newspaper was purchased in December 2015 by the Newsplex, S.A. media group after its previous owner, the Angolan offshore media group Newshold, sold it off and dismissed most of its editorial staff. Newsplex, S.A. is also owner of the weekly Sol. The editorial offices of both newspapers were merged in 2015. The weekend edition appears on Fridays.
