Observador was launched as a website in May 2014. With José Manuel Fernandes, the former director of the daily newspaper Público as its editor and journalist Miguel Pinheiro as its director, the website is financed by a group of 18 shareholders of different backgrounds and without any connections to existing media groups. Observador generally adopts a moderate, centre-right stance. Observador has also broadcast radio since June 2019 and can be received in Lisbon and Porto as well as online. They also produce podcasts. In 2016, Observador published the first print magazine that featured the best content on the website. This step was followed by further publications, including the Observador Lifestyle Magazine, which was named the best editorial project of the year by the Meios & Publicidade Awards in 2018.
