The liberal business newspaper Vedomosti was founded in 1999 by Western media companies. After foreign media ownership was limited to 20 percent in 2014, the paper passed into Russian ownership. In 2020, pro-Kremlin entrepreneurs acquired it and appointed a new editor-in-chief - against the will of the editorial board. Several journalists resigned in protest. The paper no longer features critical views.
