Finland's second-largest daily newspaper Aamulehti was closely aligned with the conservative National Coalition Party until 1992, and still leans towards the right today. The paper switched to tabloid format in 2014, and its editing team now cooperates closely with other regional dailies. Until early 2020, Aamulehti was part of Alma Media, the second largest group in the Finnish media market. Then it was taken over by the market leader Sanoma alongside 14 other newspapers. The purchase has yet to be approved by the competition authority.
