The Aargauer Zeitung is the result of a merger of the Aargauer Tagblatt and Badener Tagblatt newspapers. In September 2012 it became part of the Nordwestschweiz newspaper association, whose regional papers are published in the cantons of Aargau, Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn. Its former publisher AZ Medien is part of CH Media, a joint venture between the NZZ media group and AZ Medien, since 2018.
