News website Alfa has been owned by the Lithuanian media group Naujienų centras since 2018, so it also publishes some content from the Lithuanian group's magazines, including IQ and IQ Life. Prior to that, the portal was owned by the Baltic Media group. It was founded in 2006 by the cross-sector Lithuanian group MG Baltic. Alfa launched with a reality TV show for aspiring journalists.
