The BBC is the world's largest public television and radio broadcaster financed by licence fees. The quality of its reporting is considered exemplary worldwide. The BBC has been under pressure to cut costs since 2010. In the Brexit debate it was accused by EU critics of being too pro-European in its coverage. Since August 2020 pensioners over 75, who were previously exempt from paying the licence fee, have had to start paying it again.
