The Berliner Morgenpost paper was founded by Leopold Ullstein, it was owned by Axel Springer publishing group from 1959 to 2014, which then sold it to the Funke media group. Since May 2015 the non-regional sections of the Morgenpost have been produced by the Funke group's central newsroom. Its joint editorial operations with the Springer-owned papers Die Welt and Die Welt am Sonntag have ceased, however Die Welt and the Funke group dailies still market their advertising together. A tabloid version of the Morgenpost was launched in October 2016.
