Established in 1959, Der Blick was Switzerland's first tabloid. A decade later its circulation had risen to over 200,000 copies and it quickly became the country's leading daily. A Sunday edition, the SonntagsBlick, was launched in 1969. In 2008 a free evening edition called Blick am Abend went into distribution on work days. At 285,000 copies Blick am Abend's circulation now far exceeds that of Blick. The printed version of Blick am Abend was discontinued at the end of 2018. By launching Blick TV in 2020, the publishing house Ringier initiated a web TV format. The US broadcaster CNN serves as its model.
