The Swiss media company Ringier started out on the Romanian media market with the launch of the business weekly Capital. The magazine was the country's most widely read business weekly until the end of 2007, with a circulation of around 30,000 copies, but owing to stiff competition its circulation dropped dramatically. Ringier sold the newspaper in 2010. The current owner is the Romanian political consultant and journalist Dan Andronic, who was sentenced to three years probation in 2020 for membership of a criminal organisation. Capital's print version was discontinued and it is now only published online.
