In 2010, journalists and former members of the editing team at Romanian news website Hotnews launched the Contributors portal, where experts and journalists analyse and comment on current affairs. The aim was to establish a communication platform beyond a media landscape driven by political interests, and also to provide a space for the publication of academic essays. The contributors publish their content there for free. The blog is financed by donations and a contract with Media Bit Software SRL, a company that also owns news website Hotnews. In September 2022, the company was acquired by the film production company Multi Media Est. The owner is the film producer Dragoş Vîlcu.
