Die Presse is Austria's most widely read quality newspaper. This long-standing paper was founded during the Austrian Empire's 1848 revolutions. Its editorial policy is conservative and liberal. In 2009, a special Sunday edition was launched called Presse am Sonntag. Die Presse is part of the Styria Media Group, which has close ties to the Catholic Church. After being implicated in a corruption scandal involving the Christian-conservative ÖVP (Austrian People's Party) and former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, the newspaper's long-standing editor-in-chief and publisher, Rainer Nowak, was forced to resign. Florian Asamer has been editor-in-chief of the paper ever since.
