The founder of this weekly newspaper was the Romanian philosopher Andrei Pleșu. Featuring essays and debate texts on politics and culture, it targets an intellectual readership. Dilema Veche now belongs to the Adevărul Holding publishing group. In 2012 its editors decided to introduce a paid content model for the newpaper's website which was then abandoned in 2016. The newspaper is also financed by the Romanian Ministry of Culture.
