Eesti Päevaleht was founded by the merger of the Hommikuleht, Päevaleht and Rahva Hääl newspapers in 1995. Eesti Sõnumid also joined the paper in the same year. It lost many readers during the economic crisis but today it is the undisputed number three in the Estonian daily newspaper segment. Critical social commentaries are its trademark. The Friday edition features longer portrait pieces, interviews, feature stories and entertainment.
