Ignacio Escolar, the former editor-in-chief of the left-wing daily Público who made a name for himself with investigative journalism, founded the left-wing website eldiario.es together with some of his former colleagues in 2012. The editors have a majority stake in the website's publishing company. eldiario.es has an open stance towards anti-globalisation movements and the left-wing party Podemos that was founded in 2014.
