Hämeen Sanomat adopted an extremely anti-communist stance in the 1920s and 1930s. It considered itself a mouthpiece for the anti-democratic Patriotic People's Movement (IKL), which was founded in Hämeenlinna in 1932 and active until 1944, but later declared its independence. It now sees itself as the voice of the province.
