A western Finnish regional paper, Satakunnan Kansa maintained close ties with the conservative National Coalition Party until 1989. Today it is Finland's third-largest daily in terms of circulation. It is published by the country's second-largest media company Alma Media. Then the market leader Sanoma took over the paper along with 14 other newspapers. The deal has yet to be approved by the competition authority.
