In 2002 the publisher of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung launched a Sunday paper with its own independent editorial staff. Only one of this paper's six sections is dedicated to current affairs. The background story section features numerous commentaries and opinion pieces on the topics of the week. With its emphasis on culture, sports and lifestyle, the NZZ am Sonntag is less political than its daily sister paper.
