El Punt Avui, which is published in Catalan only, is the product of the 2011 merger of two Catalan papers founded in the 1970s, Avui (1976) and El Punt (1979). Compared to larger and more moderate Catalan dailies like La Vanguardia and El Periódico de Catalunya its stance is more left-wing and decidedly separatist.
