The daily newspaper La Provence was created in 1997 from a merger of the regional papers Le Provençal and Le Méridional and is sold in Marseille and the Provence. In 2013 the paper was bought by controversial businessman Bernard Tapie, who has been prosecuted among other things for breach of trust and corruption. La Provence also owns the free paper Marseille Plus.
