US banker James T. Bates founded the daily La Tribune de Genève in 1879. After its direct competitor La Suisse went bankrupt in 1994 it became Francophone Switzerland's leading daily. La Tribune de Genève has a particular focus on the international organisations based in Geneva. The Zürich-based media group Tamedia took over this regional paper in 2011. La Tribune de Genève is a founding member of the Leading European Media Alliance (LENA).
