The French socialist Jean Jaurès founded the daily newspaper L’Humanité in 1904. Between 1920 and 1994 the paper was the organ of the French Communist Party, which is still the majority shareholder today. In 1996 it became the first French online daily to be fully available online but its digitial model still isn't profitable. Owing to a declining circulation, the newspaper has had to be saved from bankruptcy several times with the help of fundraising campaigns.
