Lietuvos rytas is the successor to the Soviet newspaper Komjaunimo tiesa. Once it was the most influential newspaper, now the print version has to fight for survival and has only appeared three times a week since 2020. It is owned by the Lietuvos rytas media group whose majority shareholders are the paper's editor-in-chief Gedvydas Vainauskas and the Big Group company. Vainauskas is currently on trial for corruption.
