Lietuvos rytas is the successor to the Soviet newspaper Komjaunimo tiesa. It was once Lithuania's most influential newspaper, but now the print version is fighting to survive and, since 2024, only appears once a week. It is owned by the Lietuvos rytas media group whose majority shareholders are the paper's editor-in-chief Gedvydas Vainauskas and the Big Group company. Vainauskas is currently on trial for corruption.
