Founded in 1848, the Luxemburger Wort was originally owned by the Catholic Church. It is the Luxembourg's leading daily. Wort.lu, the newspaper's online version, is the country's second most popular website run by a media outlet. The paper is published by the Saint-Paul Luxembourg SA group, which is majority owned by the archdiocese of Luxembourg. In February 2016 Luc Frieden, the former Christian-Social finance minister, became president of the publishing group. Articles appear in German, French and Luxembourgish.
