Malta Today was founded in 1999 and appears twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The centre-left paper made a name for itself in its early years by lifting the lid on scandals in Malta. It was also an ardent supporter of Malta's EU accession, which ensued in 2004. Readership has remained well below that of Malta's other English-language newspapers, the Times of Malta and the Malta Independent.
