Founded in 1780, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung is Switzerland's leading quality paper and highly influential throughout the German-speaking world. Politically it is closely aligned with the liberal Free Democratic Party. The paper owes its good reputation to its business and culture sections and its extensive coverage of foreign affairs via a large correspondent network. Since its relaunch in August 2016 the focus on opinion pieces and analyses has increased. Since a new editor-in-chief took over in 2015 the newspaper has become markedly more conservative.
