The news magazine Polityka was founded in the 1950s and was originally the official organ of the communist party (PZPR). At the time the party allowed it to publish opinions which didn't entirely correspond to the official party line. Polityka has been published by a cooperative especially set up for this purpose since 1990. It was relaunched as a colour magazine in 1995.
