Revista 22 (Magazine 22) was named in memory of December 22, 1989, the day the Ceaușescu regime was overthrown. During those revolutionary times intellectuals and dissidents came together and founded the Group for Social Dialogue (GDS), which publishes Revista 22 as its own independent publication. The magazine features debates, analyses and commentary pieces. It is financed by subscriptions, donations and EU funding. The Romanian Ministry of Culture discontinued its funding for the magazine some time ago. The editors suspect that this is because the authorities were displeased with their reporting. Since 2018 the paper only appears every two weeks for financial reasons.
