The French version of the American website slate.com was founded in 2009 by former editor-in-chief of Le Monde, Jean-Marie Colombani. The founders still have a majority stake in it today. The focus of slate.fr is commentary and analysis that gives readers a more international perspective. In 2016 Slate introduced podcasts and a new subscription service called Slate+.
