Sol (Sun) is a weekly paper published every Saturday in Lisbon, with a liberal to right-wing orientation. It was purchased in December 2015 by the Newsplex, S.A. media group after its previous owner, the Angolan offshore media group Newshold, sold it off and fired most of its editorial staff. Sol was founded by José António Saraiva, the former chief editor of the weekly Expresso. Its first edition appeared in September 2006. Its circulation plummeted from 49,500 copies in 2014 to just 27,000 in 2016. Its weekend edition, Tabu, was discontinued.
