Suomenmaa is the newspaper of the liberal Centre Party (originally the Agrarian League). Founded in 1908 under the name Maakansa, it was renamed to Suomenmaa in 1965 after the Agrarian League became the Centre Party. Although Suomenmaa is a party organ it is more influential than its circulation would seem to indicate as its articles are often cited and commented on by other media. As a result of the Center Party's defeat in the parliamentary elections in April 2019, the financial support the paper received from the party was halved. Instead of three times a week, the newspaper now appears only monthly.
