Tagesschau.de was founded in 1996 as an online supplement to the daily TV news programme, but has since developed into a stand-alone news website run by the joint organisation of Germany's regional public broadcasters, ARD. Since 2017 the portal faktenfinder is also available on the site. According to its statement it aims to gather information on political propaganda, rumors, lies and half-truths on the Internet and shed light on these phenomena.
