Vesti is the result of a 2012 merger of the two Russian-language newspapers Vesti segodnja and Chas. It is closely aligned with the Saskaņa party (Harmony), which is loyal to Moscow. On both domestic and foreign policy Vesti backs the official Russian position vis-à-vis the Baltic states and is consequently very popular among the Russian-speaking population.
