Wirtschaftswoche is Germany's only weekly paper with a focus on the economy and business. It is compulsory reading at the stock exchanges in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. It started life in 1926 as Der deutsche Volkswirt and has appeared under it current name since 1973. As well as news stories it has made a name for itself by publishing rankings of universities and cities, for example, and also organising business awards and competitions. In 2015 the newspaper distanced itself from its previously eurosceptic course and launched its own campaign aimed at improving the EU's image.
