SIC Notícias is a 24-hour news broadcaster that belongs to the Portuguese private broadcasting company SIC ((Sociedade Independente de Comunicação). It was the first private broadcaster to go on air in 1992 and is part of ex-prime minister Francisco Balsemão's Impresa media group - which also owns other media outlets including the weekly paper Expresso. SIC Notícias' website features opinion pieces by commentators like business journalist José Gomes Ferreira or lawyer and former leader of the Social Democrats (PSD) Luís Marques Mendes.
