The Kleine Zeitung was founded in 1904 by the Catholic press association for "little people". Today it is still completely owned by the Styria Media Group which has close ties to the Church. Athough it is only published in the federal states of Steirmark, Kärnten and Osttirol, it is one of most widely read dailies in Austria. Its large editorial offices in the capital also give the paper a nationwide relevance.
