newsru.com was the last remnant of the media empire of Russian oligarch Vladimir Gusinsky, who was forced into exile in 2000. It started out as the website of TV channel NTV. The Moscow-based newsroom provided extensive critical and independent news coverage but did not comment on anything itself. On 31 May 2021 its operations were discontinued, officially for financial reasons. The website is still online.
