112.ua was originally the website of TV channel 112 and broadcast live 24-hour news coverage. The channel was owned by five TV braodcasters: Novi Format TV, Partner TV, Ariadna TV, TV Vybor and Leader TV. The owner of these five broadcsters is Taras Kozak, a member of the opposition platform For Life (formerly: Opposition Bloc), which is currently prohibited under martial law. Taras Kozak has close ties to Viktor Medvedchuk, also a member of the opposition platform, and is a good friend of Vladimir Putin. In September 2019, the State Commission for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine withdrew TV channel 112's broadcasting frequency, and until February 2021 it was only available online or via cable and satellite. Journalists from 112 Ukraine and other banned channels including NewsOne and ZIK launched another TV channel called Pershy Nezalezhny ("The First Independent"), which broadcast via the Internet, but it was banned by Ukraine's National Security Council on 28 December 2021, since which it can no longer be found on Facebook, YouTube or as a website.
