The first issue of the weekly Demokracija was published in 1996. For the public Demokracija was the weekly newspaper of the "Slovenian Spring" parties. The two current majority stakeholders in Nova Obzorja, the publisher of this conservative-right-wing weekly, are the SDS party of the conservative Prime Minister Janez Janša and the Hungarian publishing house Ripost.
