Gazete Duvar

The Internet portal Gazete Duvar (Newspaper Wall) was founded in the summer of 2016 by the first Turkish conscientious objector Vedat Zencir and aims to offer quality journalism in times of declining freedom of expression. Its staff includes renowned journalists who have been dismissed for government-critical reporting by the major media. Gazete Duvar has repeatedly been instructed by the state to delete exposés about corruption and other scandals from its website. In 2021, publisher Zencir dismissed the then editor-in-chief over concerns that his critical line could put the whole website in jeopardy. Since 2019 some of the content has also been published in English on duvarenglish.com.
