The Internet portal Gazete Duvar (Newspaper Wall) was founded in the summer of 2016 by the first Turkish conscientious objector Vedat Zencir and aims to offer quality journalism in times of declining freedom of expression. Its staff includes renowned journalists who have been dismissed for government-critical reporting by the major media. Gazete Duvar has repeatedly been instructed by the state to delete from its website exposés about, for example, corruption. Since 2019, parts of the portal on duvarenglish.com have also been in English.
