The Algemeen Dagblad is the daily newspaper with the second-highest circulation in the country if its seven regional editions are included. Each of these has its own title which references the region behind the AD logo. After the national edition of Algemeen Dagblad merged with the seven regional newspapers in 2005, the paper lost tens of thousands of readers. AD was taken over by the Belgian DPG Media group in 2009 and is the only national newspaper that is printed in Rotterdam rather than Amsterdam. AD is a tabloid newspaper with a strong sports and entertainment section.
