Brīvā Latvija is a weekly newspaper aimed at Latvians living abroad. It is co-owned by the Latvian communities of Western Europe. The newspaper's board members are representatives of Latvian communities in the UK, Germany and Sweden. Brīvā Latvija was founded in 1986 with the merger of two Latvian newspapers published in exile: Londonas Avīze (founded in 1942) and Latvija (founded in 1946 in camps for displaced persons in West Germany). After Latvia regained its independence, the newspaper was printed in Riga from the mid-1990s onwards. The print version is published once a fortnight.
