Takvim was founded in 1994 by the well-known businessman and media mogul Dinç Bilgin. The newspaper has belonged to the pro-government Turkuvaz Holding since 2007. Takvim gained notoriety in 2013 through a fake interview with CNN star reporter Christiane Amanpour in which she supposedly admitted that her reporting during the Gezi Park protests in 2013 was intended to contribute to the destabilisation of Turkey on behalf of international donors.
